[sam id=”15″ codes=”true”]In her role as moderator, Sooke Mayor Maja Tait will pose a set of questions prepared by the BC Sustainable Energy Association and the Dogwood Initiative, the evening’s two non-partisan organizers. Once these have been debated, Mayor Tait will invite queries from the audience. The prepared questions deal with sustainable energy, green jobs, the Enbridge and Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion proposals, the National Energy Board, Canada’s share of GHG emissions reductions, and the impact of today’s policies on future generations.“We’re inviting candidates who have a realistic shot at representing the riding in the current first-past-the-post voting system,” explains Kai Nagata, the Dogwood Initiative’s Energy & Democracy Director. “Our criteria include their party currently holding seats in Ottawa and capturing more than one percent of the popular vote.”
Free childcare will be available at EMCS from a certified childcare worker employed with Victoria’s Cridge Centre. The service is courtesy of Generation Squeeze, the Vancouver-based national lobby group for young Canadian adults and families.
The Sooke debate is hosted by Transition Sooke and Dogwood’s Sooke region team with the support of four local sustainable businesses: A Sea of Bloom Floral Design, Seaflora Seaweed Skincare, the Sooke Harbour House and Tugwell Creek Honey Farm & Meadery. [sam_ad id=”90″ codes=”true”]

The CPC doesn’t believe in science.
I can understand why the Conservative candidate might be a little uncomfortable discussing climate change, but it is a very important issue that is clearly on the minds of many voters here on the coast.
Why is it that any debate on climate change always end up for a no show for Conservatives?
No one is surprised. At least no one that’s paying attention.

Swing in the dark: big oil &/or china?
It’s not a secret. He told republicans when they were in power about 10 years ago that in 10 years they wouldn’t recognize Canada. Social programs cut, taxes cut and increased infrastructure for big oil, efforts to reduce voting. Follow the policy, money and the alliance and truth is revealed. He is a republican.
How is climate change still being a called a debate? Alternative energy brainstorming and maybe climate change education session would make much more sense
None of the parties denies climate change, I think the debate is about the differing visions for how to deal with it.
Gee, Mike, you should go. They’ve got childminding!
Indicative of the Tory platform regarding the environment?? Hhmmm..
