Several police agencies and other emergency services responded to a massive manhunt in View Royal during rush hour traffic.
At approximately 15:00 hours, members of the West Shore RCMP observed a man who was wanted for several criminal charges, including being Unlawfully at Large, out of Kelowna and Vernon, BC.
In attempt to flee from police, the male jumped in the Gorge waterway. The suspect kept walking away from police, with the water up to his waist, and made concerning comments about hurting himself before he would get out of the water.
The area was swiftly contained with the help of over 30 members of the West Shore RCMP, Saanich Police, Victoria Police. View Royal Fire Department and Saanich Fire Department also assisted with their boats.
The suspect was located approximately 40 minutes later on the shoreline of Craigowan Rd, hiding in the bushes and was apprehended without incident.
The suspect, a 49 year old male of no fixed address was then taken into custody and will appear in court the next morning.
