–West Shore RCMP media release
On July 23rd, 2019, at approximately 5:00 pm the West Shore RCMP received a report of a 50-year-old male suspect who was armed and had barricaded himself within a housing complex located on Station Ave near Peatt Rd in Langford.
West Shore RCMP front line members responded immediately blocking off surrounding streets and evacuating residences in the area. A firearm was discharged from within the suspect’s residence. The Island District Emergency Response Team along with RCMP Negotiators attended and the male was safely taken into custody at approximately 9:30 pm.
No injuries were sustained by the suspect or police in this incident.
“This was a dynamic situation which required us to mobilize both West Shore RCMP officers and Island District resources quickly, “said Staff Sergeant Raj Sandhu, Acting Officer in Charge of West Shore RCMP.
“The situation was contained and residents were evacuated for their safety. We want to say thank you to the Royal Canadian Legion (Langford Branch), who opened their doors and allowed displaced residents to wait inside while police responded to the scene. West Shore RCMP officers executed a search warrant for the residence where ammunition and firearms were seized. The investigation is still ongoing, charges are expected to be put forward.”
