–West Shore RCMP media release
Summer is just around the corner and that means more vehicle traffic on our roadways. That’s why West Shore RCMP’s Traffic Unit has been targeting traffic hot spots.
One of the identified
hot spots is the Esquimalt Lagoon on Ocean Blvd in Colwood. Over the last two weeks the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit has focused on the Esquimalt Lagoon and the results are in.
The following enforcement actions were taken:
- 24 tickets and warnings for various traffic offences with the majority being speed related;
- 1 vehicle was removed from the road and sent for safety/road worthiness inspection;
- 1 vehicle was seized for excessive speeding and the driver was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act
- 1 vehicle failed to stop for police and fled. The Traffic Unit located the vehicle and determined the driver had two outstanding warrants for their arrest. They were arrested and issued violation tickets for speeding and failing to stop for police.
“Further to the above, one vehicle was performing stunt driving maneuvers on Ocean Blvd,” said Cpl. Krauss of the West Shore RCMP Traffic Unit. “Unbeknownst to them, Cst. McKinney of the Traffic Unit was down there at the time and witnessed the whole thing. Their vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days and they were issued a fine of $368 for driving without due care under the Motor Vehicle Act.”
