The annual Wounded Warrior Run, created to increased public awareness and financial support for Wounded Warriors Canada, is scheduled for February 21 to 28, 2021. Wounded Warriors Canada is a national mental health service provider utilizing clinical best practices and evidence-informed care to create an environment of compassion, resiliency and hope for Canada’s Veterans, First Responders and their families. At this point, the run is still going ahead (organizers are communicating directly with the provincial public health officer), but of course anything can change between now and late February.
So, to help with fundraising efforts, Island organizers have created a virtual 10k run.
“For the first year ever, anyone can join the Wounded Warrior Run BC team!” reads their website. “This is the first ever Wounded Warriors Run BC virtual 10k race. We are using this race to raise money for our main event where 8 runners run the length of Vancouver Island.”
Runners can register for the virtual run for $35, and runners and others can donate (or gift a donation), all from their website.
And in late February, provided it’s still a go, a team of dedicated runners will relay-run the length of Vancouver Island in just eight consecutive days. They will start on Sunday, February 21st, 2021 in Port Hardy and finish on Sunday, February 28th, 2021 in Victoria. The journey covers more than 600 km.
SPN guest photographer John Penner will be on hand to bring photos to our readership. Here are some links to last year’s run, also covered by Penner:
